What do nonprofits think of CSR?

Anushree Parekh, Priyaka Dhingra & Ragini Menon (India Development Review)

This article highlights the trends and challenges that Indian nonprofits face in accessing corporate social responsibility (CSR) funds. Nonprofits have been the most popular vehicle through which the private sector has undertaken CSR initiatives—43% of all CSR funds in the last four years have been dispensed through these organizations.

The article draws on findings from a national-level study of 320 nonprofits. It spotlights the discrepancy in funds raised by smaller vs larger nonprofits, and the reasons why: geography impacts CSR allocation, certain sectors are ineligible for CSR funding, and there is an uneven access to information about available CSR funding. The need for longer term commitment from corporates and employee engagement is discussed. Recommendations for how the CSR ecosystem can be strengthened are also provided. Read it here.
