Position Summary

CAPS is seeking to hire a full-time Senior Researcher with strong research, writing and editorial skills to join our research team in Hong Kong.  As a member of a small but high-powered research team, the Senior Researcher will report directly to the Director of Research. This individual will serve as a key point of ownership on major research projects, bringing both analytical expertise and the leadership needed to drive projects from start to finish. 

 

Key Responsibilities

Research & Analysis 

  • Design and conduct primary and secondary research across multiple sources, shaping research questions, methodologies, and final outputs; 
  • Lead and contribute to the analysis and synthesis of qualitative and quantitative data to generate clear, evidence-based insights; 
  • Lead the drafting and editing of analytically rigorous, well-structured research reports and articles tailored for diverse global audiences; 
  • Take responsibility for the quality, coherence, and intellectual rigor of all finalized research outputs. 

 

 Project Management & Leadership 

  • Lead the execution of research projects from conception to completion, serving as the primary driver of day-to-day delivery against timelines and priorities; 
  • Set clear direction for project workflows, manage resources efficiently and proactively mitigate risks to ensure timely delivery; 
  • Oversee, guide and nurture the contributions of junior team members, fostering a high-performance environment. 

 

Thought Leadership & Partnership 

  • Represent CAPS at regional conferences, events, and meetings to effectively disseminate research findings and elevate the organization’s profile; 
  • Write op-eds, articles, and commentary pieces to share CAPS’ insights with a wider audience; 
  • Help nurture, grow, and maintain strategic research partnerships across Asia. 

 

Requirements

Qualifications 

  • Master’s degree in the social sciences, business or humanities from a highly regarded university; A PhD is a strong asset; 
  • 8+ years of experience in research/writing or related fields; 
  • Excellent writing, editing and critical thinking skills, with the ability to translate complex analysis and insights into clear and compelling narratives for different audiences; 
  • Extensive experience using a mixture of qualitative and quantitative research methods; 
  • Strong project management skills, with a track record of independently planning and delivering large-scale project initiatives, managing timelines, navigating stakeholders, and coordinating diverse inputs; 
  • Native proficiency in English with superb written and verbal communication skills. Fluency in one or more Asian languages is highly desirable; 
  • Strong interpersonal skills to effectively work across different cultures and regional contexts. 

 

Additionally, the successful candidate will have: 

  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to stay organized and juggle multiple priorities; 
  • Passion for comparative research with a curious mind to tackle new questions and explore unfamiliar areas; 
  • Demonstrable interest in philanthropy/nonprofit/social sectors; 
  • Knowledge in some of the economies covered by CAPS; 
  • Positive energy, collaborative spirit, and a good sense of humor.
