A highly respected leader in China’s philanthropic sector, Ms. Kong also serves as Vice President of the China Charity Alliance.
SHANGHAI (June 18, 2026) — The Centre for Asian Philanthropy and Society (CAPS) announces today that Ms. Dongmei Kong, Founder and Chairperson of the Dongrun Foundation, Vice President of the China Charity Alliance, and Honorary Vice President of the China Charity Federation, has joined the CAPS Board of Governors. Ms. Kong’s appointment will further strengthen CAPS’ work in China’s philanthropy and social investment sectors and support CAPS’ continued efforts to connect Asian experience with local practice.
Ms. Kong brings more than a decade of outstanding leadership experience in the philanthropy sector of China. The Dongrun Foundation, which she founded, has expanded its rural education initiatives to over 300 counties across China, benefiting millions of young people through its innovative, incentive-based support for children and youth education.
In recognition of its exceptional contributions to the sector, the foundation has twice received China’s highest government award in philanthropy, the “China Charity Award,” and Ms. Kong herself was honored as a “China Charity Model” at the 12th China Charity Awards.
As Vice President of the China Charity Alliance, Ms. Kong’s perspective extends beyond the operation of a single organization to advancing the professionalization, systematization, and high-quality development of China’s philanthropic sector.
In Ms. Kong’s view, philanthropy should not be a simple act of giving, but rather one rooted in unlocking potential. She emphasizes that without in-depth social research, it is impossible to identify where philanthropy can be most effective. This closely aligns with CAPS’ commitment to translating research into actionable policy recommendations and practical tools.
Regarding her appointment, Ms. Kong said: “I am delighted to join the CAPS Board of Governors. As China’s philanthropic sector moves toward high-quality development, strengthening data- and research-driven decision-making is particularly critical. I look forward to working with the CAPS team to explore social investment pathways suited to China’s national context, contributing to the professional development of the sector.”
In October last year, CAPS opened its Shanghai Representative Office in Hongqiao. Ms. Kong’s appointment is a natural next step in deepening CAPS’ work and partnerships in the Chinese Mainland.
Ms. Kong joins the existing CAPS Board of Governors, which includes Ronnie C. Chan (Honorary Chair of Hang Lung Properties Limited and CAPS Chairman and Co-Founder), Elizabeth Eder Zobel de Ayala (Co-Founder of Teach for the Philippines), Jamshyd N. Godrej (Chairman of Godrej and Boyce), Daniel M. Tsai (Chairman of Fubon Group), and Chey Tae-Won (Chairman of SK Group).
