Press Release: The Centre for Asian Philanthropy and Society (CAPS) Strengthens Regional Presence in Northeast Asia with Renewed Leadership in Korea and Japan

The appointment of Heesu Jang as Director, Northeast Asia, marks a strategic step in CAPS’ mission to advance effective giving and impact investing across the region.

HONG KONG/SEOUL/TOKYO (February 9, 2026)The Centre for Asian Philanthropy and Society (CAPS) today announced its enhanced engagement and leadership presence in Korea and Japan, reaffirming its commitment to supporting philanthropy and private social investment across Northeast Asia with the appointment of Heesu Jang as Director, Northeast Asia.

Heesu will serve as the primary point of contact for CAPS partners and stakeholders in Korea and Japan, leading the organization’s initiatives across research, advisory services, and its peer learning platform, the Impact Network.

“At a time when private social investment across Northeast Asia is growing in both scale and sophistication, there is increasing demand for trusted platforms, evidence-based insight, and strategic support,” said Manisha Mirchandani, Executive Director at CAPS. “This appointment reflects CAPS’ continued commitment to working closely with partners in the region and our ongoing role in contributing Northeast Asian perspectives to Asia-wide and global conversations.”

Korea and Japan, Asia’s two OECD economies, are entering a new phase in their social investment journey, one marked by a shift from ad hoc giving to strategic, collaborative approaches. The growing dialogue around Korea–Japan collaboration offers strong potential for shared learning and joint initiatives that can shape the broader Asia-Pacific landscape. With Korea’s strengths in social entrepreneurship and Japan’s maturing impact investing infrastructure, both countries are well-positioned to contribute to cross-border innovation and social progress.

“I am pleased to re-join CAPS at a moment when Japan and Korea are playing an increasingly prominent role in shaping the future of philanthropy and social impact in Asia,” said Heesu Jang, Director, Northeast Asia. “I look forward to working with partners across the region to support learning, strategy, and collaboration.”

CAPS provides practical, Asia-relevant insights and trusted engagement opportunities for philanthropists, corporations, and policymakers. Its work bridges data-driven analysis with on-the-ground collaboration, helping decision-makers across Asia maximize the effectiveness of private capital for public good.

With this strengthened presence, CAPS invites partners in Korea and Japan to engage more closely in regional peer learning, joint initiatives, and strategic collaboration that advance the impact ecosystem in Northeast Asia and beyond.
